Operating from Rangiora Raceway, Gavin Smith offers full training facilities for up to 25 horses.
He has two stabling blocks at the Raceway to accommodate the team, with a horse walker and a 1200m all-weather track, fully maintained for race-day, trials and workouts use.
He is also close enough to access Woodend Beach for horses who may need beach work.
After having a good grounding working for some of NZ's top trainers, Gavin had his first full season as a professional trainer in 2009-10, racking up 17 wins
He has consistently kept the wins coming, surpassing the 200 mark early in 2018-19.
Gavin's top horse has been the 2017 NZ Trotting Free-For-All winner, Great Things Happen, while he advanced Imola to a start in the 2017 New Zealand Cup, before a back ailment derailed the horse's career.
He also prepared Hard Copy for seven starts, before the horse was exported to West Australia, where he won the 2015 WA Pacing Cup. Racing as My Hard Copy, he went on to win 27 times, earning $1.27 million.
Gavin has also prepared useful fillies, NZ 2400m stand-start 2YO filly record-holder Allison Stokke, the dual-gaited Scarlett Banner, and Shebang, sold after 11 NZ starts and a subsequent 1:53.2 USA mile winner.
